The Mount herd was established in autumn 2010 with the purchase of “Luddenmore Willow” from Michael Sheehan after standing Senior Champion at the Premier Sale in Roscommon. She was in calf to Samark Superman with her first calf, “Mount Carlos” being born on New Years Day 2011. We later purchased more Luddenmore females, “Luddenmore Wishful Polly” and “Luddenmore Daffodil”. Since then we have carefully selected females from the following herds; Celtic, Clonagh, Curaheen, Knockane and Seafort.

When deciding to establish our pedigree herd, Simmental was the obvious choice as we had successfully used Simmental herd sires within our commercial herd with stock bulls such as “Anatrim Tapa”. Our Simmental crosses were always that one step ahead of the Limousins and Charolais. They all combined milk, docility, width and great size.

We began our show career with  homebred heifer, “Mount Eve” by Banwy T-Rex out of Luddenmore Wishful Polly. Eve was show successfully as a calf and also as an Intermediate heifer. She was Overall champion at Tralee Show with numerous reserve championships. Her career highlight was at the National Livestock Show in Tullamore 2014 where she was crowned Reserve National Intermediate Heifer Champion as well as leading James to victory in the Junior Young Handlers Class. Following on from our successes with Mount Eve we have been regular exhibitors at local summer shows as well as National shows in Tullamore and Strokestown.

Our animals are becomming more successful each year at the National Premier and Society sales in Roscommon and Tullamore with sale successes including Eve’s twin sister, “Mount Emerald” Reserve Senior Champion at the Premier Sale in Roscommon November 2015 and sold for €3,300 and more recently Reserve Female Champion at the Premier Sale in March 2017 “Mount Heidi” selling  to the Atlow herd, UK. Bulls sales this April were great with “Mount Hugo” selling for €3,600 atTtullamore sale and “Mount Handy Manny” destined for AI distribution in Italy.
